Spiritual Weapons

“For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons, using manipulation to achieve our aims. Instead, our spiritual weapons are energized with divine power to effectively dismantle the defenses behind which people hide. We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.” (2 Corinthians 3-6 TPT)

 

How do we fight evil? 

 

Can manipulation, passive aggressiveness, dishonesty, shaming, bullying, stealing, and other forms of wickedness be used to combat attacks against your spirit?

 

There is a popular idiom that says: “Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.” A knife is no match against a gun.  I would argue that even a gun is not the best weapon against a gun-weilding enemy. If I had a choice, I would prefer to be inside an armored tank! A handgun is ineffective against a tank and would probably scare off any adversary. 

 

Why would we pick human weapons when we have access to spiritual armored tanks?  Perhaps it is due to a lack of familiarity. It takes some practice to know how to wield spiritual weapons. I’m sure driving a tank requires some training, too. Thus, let us pray for proper training in the art of spiritual warfare. 

 

Lord, please redirect our natural inclinations to combat evil with evil. Teach us to use spiritual weapons energized with divine power to effectively dismantle the defenses behind which people hide. Help us to demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. Show us how to capture every thought and insist that it submit to Your Anointing Power.
